TESTIMONIALS

I've seen AE become a vehicle for action. Students are empowered with newfound knowledge as AE creates a safe space to have honest dialogue of the complex histories of Native people. The students are also challenged to think critically about their future. In a week, their transformations show, and they want to share their newfound knowledge and work towards creating change in their own communities.

I completed two summers with AE. I love this organization because it allows Columbia undergrads to put the knowledge they are learning in the classroom to use. It ensures Native college students are engaging with inter-generational transmission of knowledge and skills by interacting with Native high school students in communities across what is known as the United States.
Some of my favorite memories with AE is witnessing young Native scholars experience a-ha! moments when they engage with true history in Native America. AE intentionally engages with Native youth in high school to teach that which is not known. To critique Indigeneity being locked in "a before" and attempt to explore Native identity with all its complexities and intersectional identities and histories.
